Viking Paragliding Skärmflyg

Student course

The adventure begins

The student course is the foundational training that teaches you how to fly a paraglider. If all required modules are successfully completed, you will be awarded a Student License.

Please note: completing the course does not guarantee a license unless all modules are approved according to the student checklist.

Theory and Practice

The basic course covers essential theory in equipment, flight principles, aerodynamics, and meteorology, with some sessions available digitally. Rental of equipment is included in the course fee.

Course structure

The course begins with an introductory session where we review the structure, schedule theory sessions, and go through other key details. We familiarize ourselves with the equipment, and depending on the weather, we start either the practical exercises or the theory. This introduction takes place over a weekend.

The practical sessions are divided into getting to know the equipment, ground handling, and short slope flights. We’ll need 2–3 sessions for the practical part, which will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Some sessions may be arranged on short notice.

We typically offer basic courses in spring and early summer, giving you the rest of the summer to continue training before autumn and winter arrive.

Community

After completing the basic training, you will have reached the Student level according to national regulations—marking the first step on your journey toward becoming an independent pilot.

But finishing the course doesn’t mean you’re on your own. You’re now warmly welcomed into our development group, where camaraderie, guidance, support, tips, and advice are all part of the experience. We’ll be with you throughout your continued progress, all the way to Pilot 2 and beyond.

Course Price: 8 000 SEK

To participate in the basic training, you are also required to purchase a “Take Off Kit” from the Swedish Paragliding Federation before the course begins. The cost of this kit is not included in our course fee.

The federation’s fee includes group insurance valid for one calendar year, as well as a textbook that covers all stages of training up to the experienced pilot level.

If the kit is purchased after September 30th, it still applies to the basic training but also covers the federation’s annual license renewal fee and group insurance for the following calendar year.
